It’s been 19 times since Paula Gallant — a new mother, loving girl and elementary school teacher — was murdered by her father. Her daughters have never let her name be forgotten, and the community is reflecting on their specific struggle for change as fatal cases of intimate partner violence in Nova Scotia continue to rise. ” If it can occur to her, it can happen to any person, and that information needs to be repeated over and over again”, said Lynn Gallant-Blackburn, Paula’s girl. Gallant passed away in December 2005. It took more than four years for her father, Jason MacRae, to disclose to the murder. In March 2011, he was given a life-long prison sentence for second-degree death. Gallant had been strangled in accordance with a mutual statement of facts that included a disagreement over MacRae’s playing debt. ” It took about four and a half times to get a judgment.
