Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Wednesday inaugurated new chairmen for Adamawa State’s 21 local government areas, charging them to always be available to their people.
During the inauguration ceremony in Yola, Fintiri stressed that the new chairmen must remember that they were not elected to stay in the state capital but to maintain constant physical contact with residents of their respective LGAs.
“Your people must be able to reach you in your locality as often as they need you,” Fintiri told the council chairmen, who gathered in Yola with thousands of their supporters for their swearing-in ceremony.
The governor further told the chairmen, “You must always be with your people. You were not elected for Yola. I won’t want to see you here.”
The chairmen, who were administered the oath of office during Wednesday’s inauguration by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, were elected last month, on June 13, 2026.
The new chairman of Yola North, Ibrahim Jimeta, who spoke on behalf of himself and his colleagues, appreciated Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for his commitment to democracy at the third tier of governance.
The Yola North Council chairman assured residents of the various LGAs that they would have reasonable access to their chairmen and councillors.
The new 21 council chairmen, one of whom is a woman, will work with 226 newly elected councillors at the third tier of democratic governance in Adamawa State.
