
Eight students of the Faculty of Engineering of the Nasarawa State University on Wednesday night were abducted by terrorists.
The students, according to a source, were abducted from an off-campus residence in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area.
SP Ramhan Nansel, the state police command’s spokesman, in a statement confirmed the incident, saying, “six students and a friend of one of them were affected whose identity could not be immediately ascertained.”
The police spokesman further explained that the police have intensified efforts to secure the students’ release.
He stated that on 6th May, 2026, at about 21:00 hours, the command received a distress call reporting that a group of armed hoodlums stormed a students’ lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo, Gudi, on the outskirts of the town, stressing that during the incident, some students were reportedly abducted and taken to an unknown destination.
Nansel said that so far, six victims have been identified, all of whom are students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, alongside one other victim who reportedly visited one of the students at the time of the incident.
Following the development, the spokesman explained that the commissioner of police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and reassured the students, the residents, and the university community of the command’s unwavering commitment to the safe rescue of the abducted victims.
He stated that the commissioner of police, to strengthen ongoing operations, has redeployed the area commander, Akwanga, to coordinate field operations in the area pending the rescue of the victims, adding that a combined security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilante groups and other tactical units of the command, has been deployed to intensify efforts at tracking down the abductors, rescuing the victims unhurt and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
