Suspected terrorists insist on speaking with traditional ruler after wedding abduction in Sokoto 

Suspected terrorists who abducted a bride and several wedding guests in Chacho village of Wurno local government area of Sokoto state have contacted the family two days after the attack, but did not demand ransom.

Speaking to journalists in Chacho village, the father of the bride Malam Umaru Chacho said the abductors called the family and requested to be connected with the traditional ruler of the community.

“when they called they said we should connect them with the traditional ruler of the town. We refused and asked them to speak to us instead, but they declined, insisting that they wanted to speak with our traditional ruler,” he said.

Chacho disclosed that a total of 13 persons were abducted during the attack, comprising 11 females and two males.

He added that several others sustained injuries in the incident.

“A relative of the bride who resisted the terrorists was shot and sustained a severe gunshot injury that almost took his life,” he said.

He also lamented the worsening insecurity in the community, revealing that more than 30 people had been killed in Chacho village over the past five years due to persistent bandit attacks.
