​The black tourism: why and how to develop this type of tourism in Senegal (by Dr Philippe Ndiaga Ba) 

  The black tourism. Le tourisme noir, also called Thanatourisme, consists in visiting places associated with death, catastrophes and suffering. This form of tourism can encompass various places, including battlefields, prisons, cemeteries, concentration camps and museums devoted to tragic events. Today, in the context of the celebration of the anniversary of the sinking of the Joola ship, we propose to share a small reflection on the opportunity to develop this type of tourism in Senegal. Should the sinking of the Joola, 23 years after, be limited to the annual commemoration day? The answer is without a doubt, no.
