The Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Dakar has reached a decisive stage in the case of Ndella Madior Diouf, promoter of the pouponnière Keur Yeurmandé, detained since December 2023. The hearing, held on Friday 14 November, was strictly protocol, and was devoted solely to the interrogation of the identity of the accused in the presence of her lawyer, Mr Aboubacry Barro. No element of the substance of the dossier was addressed, and the accused was able to return to her cell after this exchange, L’Observateur reported in its edition of this Saturday 15 November. This formality now opens the way to trial. The same source, citing judicial sources, informs that the official date of the trial will be notified “in the next few days”, the hearing being expected “for the week to come”. Ndella Madior Diouf faces serious charges: trafficking in human beings, unlawful practice of medicine, denial of medical care resulting in the death of a minor, endangering the life of another person, failure to assist a person in danger and illegal obtaining of burial certificates. The case concerned the deaths of six babies in circumstances deemed troubling within the pouponnière, a scandal which had deeply shocked public opinion.
