According to the latest data published by the Agence nationale de la statistique et de la démographie (ANSD), the consumer price index rose by 27.20% in July 21 compared with the same month of the previous year. This evolution translates into an inflationary pressure carried essentially by several key household expenditure items. The most marked rise was in the “alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics” item, whose prices rose by 8.0%. Food and nonalcoholic beverages also showed a marked increase of 2.8%, reflecting an increase in the cost of food. The services of “restaurants and accommodation” increased by 1.9%, while the goods of “furniture, household equipment and maintenance of the household” increased by 03.6%. The health (+1.7%), transport (+1.4%) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other combustibles (+1.1%) also participate in this upward trend. On the other hand, certain sectors have contributed to moderating this inflation. The prices of goods and services “information and communication” declined by 3.0%, as did those of “personal care, social protection and other goods” (-0.7%) and, to a lesser extent, of “clothing and footwear” (-0.1%). ANSD stresses that this trend reflects the combined impact of fluctuations on world markets, internal production costs and seasonal variations, in a context where households remain sensitive to the evolution of the cost of living.
