In the framework of its national development strategy, the Government of Senegal is undertaking an ambitious reform of its fiscal system. To ensure a participatory and inclusive approach, CAJUST and IBP Sénégal have organised a workshop. This event brought together civil society organisations, women’s and youth associations, journalists, trade unions and their partners with the aim of drawing up recommendations for the revision of the General Tax Code (CGI). The reform of the Senegalese tax system aims to modernize and make more equitable the collection of public resources, while supporting the objectives of economic and social development of the country. This initiative is part of a desire to strengthen the transparency, efficiency and inclusiveness of the tax framework, in order to meet the needs of citizens and businesses. The workshop offered a unique platform to enable non-state actors to contribute actively to this process. By mobilising diverse voices, CAJUST and IBP Sénégal have stressed the importance of a taxation system which reflects the realities and aspirations of all sectors of Senegalese society. The event brought together a wide range of actors, including civil society organisations, women’s and youth rights groups, as well as trade union and media representatives.
