Currently we have more than 3,000 FM Radio Stations in NigeriaĀ
In Lagos alone I learnt they’re over 50 radio stations ( all on FM Frequencies)
But in the late 70s , there was only one FM Radio station in Nigeria , all other Stations were on the AM BandĀ
The station was NBC2 located at 45 Martins Street , LagosĀ
The reach and audience were unprecedentedĀ
It remained so until OGBC 2 Abeokuta came on stream ( I stand to be corrected ) . I rememberĀ there was another station in Port Harcourt so I don’t know between OGBC and the one in Rivers which came firstĀ
Back to NBC2 , it later metamorphosed into FRCN2 and I learnt it RN2 and Metro FM ( I leant )Ā
The pioneers of this station were Jones Usen Phil Ushe,Ā Manny Onumonu , Willie Egbe , Jacob Akinyemi Johnson,Ā Sylver Oforgu , Egbuna ( I’ve forgotten his first name ) Boniface Owoicho OnogwuĀ Ā , there are other popular names I’ve forgotten ( please help out )
People like Ndidi Osaka and the rests joined laterĀ
But the main pioneer ( anchors )Ā were not more than 10
Today , when you listen to your various FM Stations just know that there were some people that laid the foundationĀ
