
Three persons have reportedly died in Ikere-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State, during a post-convocation ceremony party.
The tragic incident happened on Saturday night at a popular hotel in the area.
DAILY POST gathered that fresh graduates and scores of students had gathered at the hotel earlier on Saturday to celebrate the second convocation ceremony of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, BOUESTI.
According to eyewitnesses, the atmosphere which was initially filled with excitement and jubilation, turned into chaos when a disagreement among some attendees escalated into violence.
As the situation triggered panic among the merrymakers, fears of imminent danger led to a frantic rush for safety, resulting in a stampede.
A source said, “Unfortunately, three people lost their lives. Two died as a result of stampede, while the third person was attacked during the violence. One of the victims was a fresh graduate who participated in the convocation ceremony earlier that day.”
The tragedy was further compounded by reports that two of the deceased were siblings, throwing their family and the wider community into deep mourning.
