Le marabout Mamadou Diop dit Baye Modou, was tried on Thursday 23 January 1953, before the correctional tribunal of Dakar for the acts of migrant trafficking. Placed under arrest since March 2024, the 37-year-old faces two years in prison and a fine of 5 million Fcfa. According to the newspaper Les Échos, the events took place on the night of 9 to 10 March 2024, when the Bargny police station received a report concerning a journey of illegal migrants. On the spot, the investigators found 46 candidates for emigration who were staying at the prison and awaiting their departure for Spain. Interrogated, the latter have designated Mamadou Diop as being the organizer of this clandestine trip. Auditionné, ce prévenu a reconnu être le convoyeur before adding that the candidates paid between 250.000 and 600.000 Fcfa per voyager. In the present case, it is clear from the foregoing that the applicant, who had been charged before being placed under a warrant of deposit, had not organised a journey or convoy of persons to Spain. Mamadou Diop also specifies that in his capacity as a marabout, he just acted by helping these travelers by giving them “grey-grey” at the request of the above-mentioned. I just help them with this gray-gray that I make because they think that it has protective effects for their journey. ”
