The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has stated that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, has committed several unfortunate errors.
Trump made these remarks while discussing the tense relationship between the US and the UK, which he asserted would not detract from King Charles’s royal visit to the US.
He noted that the “special relationship” between the US and the UK is currently in a deteriorated condition, but emphasized that this would not affect King Charles’s forthcoming state visit to America.
In an interview with Sky News, the US President once again expressed his criticism of Starmer’s policies, particularly regarding energy and immigration, and reiterated his dissatisfaction that the UK and other NATO allies had not supported his military actions against Iran when the US “required their assistance”.
Despite the strained relations between the UK and the US, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles will proceed with a four-day visit to America later this month.
Shortly after Buckingham Palace unveiled the details of the king’s itinerary in the US, Trump referred to Charles as a “great gentleman”.
“I have known him for a long time. He is a wonderful, wonderful person,” he remarked.
Trump asserted that his difficult relationship with Starmer would “not at all” overshadow the royal visit.
Regarding the UK Prime Minister, Trump stated that Starmer had made a “tragic mistake in shutting down the North Sea oil” and also made “a tragic mistake concerning immigration.”
