UCL: Referees have lost it – Bayern star, Stanisic slams official over Camavinga’s red card

Bayern Munich player Josip Stanisic has asserted that Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga should not have been sent off during their UEFA Champions League encounter, while also criticizing referee Slavko Vincic for his decision.

His remarks came after Bayern triumphed over Los Blancos with a score of 4-3 in the second leg of the quarter-finals on April 15.

With Madrid ahead 3-2 in the 62nd minute, Alvaro Arbeloa decided to substitute in Eduardo Camavinga to positively influence the match.

However, shortly thereafter, Camavinga received an unwarranted yellow card due to a reckless tackle.

He was subsequently issued a second yellow card and dismissed in the 86th minute for time-wasting, as he chose to retain possession of the ball after a free-kick was awarded against him.

Following their reduction to 10 players, Bayern Munich capitalized on the situation, with Luis Diaz and Michael Olise each netting a goal, thereby securing a 6-4 aggregate victory for the hosts.

Stanisic criticized the referee for the decision to send off Camavinga, stating to MadridZone, “I don’t believe the referee was aware that he had already issued a yellow card to Camavinga.

“If he had known, he would not have shown the second yellow. Referees seem to have lost their ability to manage significant matches somewhat.”

Eduardo Camavinga was also sent off in last season’s Champions League quarter-final, during Real Madrid’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the first leg (April 8, 2025).

Los Blancos were subsequently eliminated after suffering a 5-1 aggregate loss.
