Durban â A former Home Affairs employee, 34-year-old Tholithemba Malusi Mlondo, has been found guilty of corruption, fraud, and contraventions of the Identification Act and Immigration Act.
The accused, Mlondo, was found guilty yesterday, Thursday, 1 October 2026, in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The charges emanated from the illegal issuing of South African passports to foreign nationals between February 2022 and July 2023.
Allegations were that a group of South Africans facilitated the fraudulent acquisition of South African passports by foreign nationals at the Department of Home Affairs office in Pietermaritzburg.
These unlawful activities took place outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, when the offices were officially closed.
These unlawful activities resulted in a case being opened for investigation by Serious Corruption Investigation. Â
The accused has been in custody since his arrest.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said the accused was found guilty on 66 counts of fraud, corruption, contravention of the Immigration Act and the Identification Act.
The matter was postponed to 13 November 2026 for a pre-sentencing report, and the accused was remanded in custody.
