The Nigeria Super Falcons have advanced to the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a commanding 5-0 victory over Zambia in the quarter-finals on Friday. Goals were scored by Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, Chiwendu Ihezuo, and Tosin Demehin, leading the nine-time champions to a decisive win. The Super Falcons have impressively netted eight goals without conceding any throughout the tournament so far, marking the highest score achieved in this year’s competition. This victory also represents Nigeria’s third win against Zambia in four WAFCON encounters, with one loss. The match kicked off perfectly for the Super Falcons, with Ohale scoring the first goal just two minutes in, capitalizing on Okoronkwo’s free kick. In the 33rd minute, Okoronkwo extended the lead to 2-0 with a left-footed shot after meeting Rasheedat Ajibade’s cross with her chest. Ihezuo then scored the third goal by taking advantage of a weak clearance from the Zambian defense, overpowering her marker, and finishing past the goalkeeper. Demehin added the fourth goal in the 68th minute with a powerful header from Okoronkwo’s cross. Finally, in the 90th minute, Ijamilusi rounded off the scoring by simply tapping in Ajibade’s low cross. The Super Falcons will now compete against South Africa or Senegal in the semi-finals.
