Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the president’s successor, has received criticism from social media for pardoning some violent offenders before he leaves company. In one of his last deeds as President, Nana Addo handed out clemency to some individuals, including William Ato Essien, the former CEO of Capital Bank. Essien was imprisoned for leaking bailout money that the then-struggling banks had made available and failing to return them. After serving just one year out of a 15-year word, the President has pardoned him to the chagrin of Citizens.
