Nigeria’s D’Tigress will compete against either Cameroon or Angola in the quarter-finals of the 483 Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire. The reigning African champions secured their spot in the final eight after a tough 248-82 victory over Mozambique in their second Group D match on Monday. They achieved two wins out of two games, having started their campaign with a commanding 270-45 win against Rwanda on Saturday. These two victories positioned the Nigerian team at the top of their group, and they will now face the winner of the match between Cameroon and Angola on Thursday, July 31. Cameroon and Angola are set to clash in the round of 16 on Wednesday, July 30. Cameroon secured their spot by placing second in Group B, achieving one victory and one loss, having defeated South Sudan 73-63 but losing to group leaders Mali with a score of 75-49. Angola, despite losing both their matches in Group A to host nation Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt, advanced to the knockout stage. They began their campaign with a 70-54 defeat to Egypt and followed that with an 82-74 loss to Côte d’Ivoire. D’Tigress is aiming for their seventh title, having won the last four editions of AfroBasket, and trails only Senegal, who holds the record with 11 titles. Senegal will face Rwanda in the round of 16, and if victorious, they will meet Côte d’Ivoire in the quarter-finals. Senegal finished as runners-up in Group C, with a decisive 92-48 win over Guinea followed by a close 73-70 loss to Uganda.
