The President of the National Assembly of Senegal, El Malick Ndiaye, took part on Wednesday in a high-level panel at the 6th International Parliamentary Conference, organized around the theme: “Innovation for a peaceful future”. In his speech, the Senegalese parliamentarian highlighted the major threats to world peace, citing armed conflicts, terrorism, the impacts of climate change and unchecked technological changes. “Peace can no longer be thought of according to traditional schemes. It now demands new, bold and inclusive responses”, he declared before his counterparts. Referring to the Senegalese experience, El Malick Ndiaye presented Senegal as an example of stable democracy in West Africa, stressing the importance of political and institutional dialogue in crisis prevention. It has proposed to share this experience with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, notably in peace-building mechanisms. The President of the National Assembly then outlined three axes of innovation to rethink peace policies: The integration of the climate in the strategies for conflict prevention.
