Kwara: A police officer was fatally shot and a market was plundered during an assault by bandits on Babanla.

On Friday afternoon, around 200 armed bandits attacked Babanla town in Kwara State, resulting in the death of a police officer and the looting of a local market. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported this on X the following day. He noted that the bandits came riding motorbikes at approximately 1:00 p.m. The assailants initially targeted the Babanla Police Station, resulting in the death of ASP Adejumo Wasiu, who was serving with the ACPOL in Offa. “The assailants also seized his AK-47 rifle,” Makama noted. Sources who communicated with Makama indicated that the police station was looted, yet no additional weapons were taken as they were all being charged at that moment. “Following their assault on the police station, the bandits proceeded to the town market, where they stole a significant quantity of food and other items.” A collaborative security force consisting of military personnel, police officers, vigilantes, and local hunters swiftly intervened and successfully drove away the assailants, bringing tranquility back to the town. Currently, there are no reports of civilian casualties stemming from the incident.
