The case of alleged embezzlement linked to Covid-19 funds has seen a spectacular new development. As revealed by the daily Libération, the Chamber of Accusation of the Court of Appeal of Dakar has finally ordered a warrant of deposit against Ousseynou Ngom, former Director of the General Administration and Equipment (Dage) of the Ministry of Health. Un cautionnement qui ne suffit plus. This is a warning. Tout avait commencé par une procédure qui semblait, dans un premier temps, offrir une porte de sortie à l’ancien haut fonctionnaire (Everything had begun by a procedure which seemed, in a first instance, to offer a door of exit to the former high official). Prosecuted for an amount valued at 353 million Fcfa, Ousseynou Ngom had deposited a bail of 220 million in cash, to which he had added a villa, in the hope of avoiding the prison case. This manoeuvre had enabled him to be placed under judicial control, while the court was finally settling his case. But it was without counting on the tenacity of the parquet.
