PRP reacts to reports linking Bauchi governor to possible defection

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has distanced itself from speculations that Governor Bala Mohammed may be considering a move to the party, insisting that there is no space for him within its fold.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Secretary, Wada Abdullahi and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the party’s attention was drawn to circulating reports suggesting that Governor Mohammed might seek refuge in the PRP following the “alleged disintegration” of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, nationwide.

However, the PRP declared that even if the rumours were true, the governor would not be welcomed.

Abdullahi stated that Governor Mohammed’s leadership record in Bauchi State falls short of the standards the party upholds.

“Governor Bala Mohammed’s tenure has been marked by poor performance, which is disappointing and unacceptable to our party,” the statement read.

The PRP further cited what it described as the governor’s worrisome conduct, alongside that of his supporters, during recent events at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, noting that such behaviour contradicts the party’s core values of discipline, orderliness, and decorum.

The party also warned that if it wins the 2027 governorship election, it will launch a comprehensive review of the current administration’s policies, investigate alleged misconduct, and reverse decisions considered harmful to the state’s progress, including the creation of a First Class Emirate and the appointment of the governor’s elder brother as Emir.

Despite its firm position on Governor Mohammed, the PRP emphasised that it remains open to citizens with proven integrity and a track record of contributing positively to Bauchi’s development.

“Our doors remain open to individuals who genuinely align with our vision for a better Bauchi State,” Abdullahi added.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to principled leadership, transparency, and the welfare of the people.
