Saint-Louis, Senegal A major entrepreneurial dynamic is emerging in the northern region of Senegal, particularly in the villages of Koppé Mangaye et Ngane, in the commune of Gamadji Saré. There, women’s groups transform the onion culture into a strategic axis for their economic independence. This initiative is crucially supported by the Projet de réhabilitation et d’extension des périmètres irrigués villageois (PREPIV). PREPIV is a vital investment aimed at raising the living standards of thousands of rural people and consolidating the country’s food sovereignty. This major programme is financed jointly by the World Bank and the State of Senegal, for an amount of 23 billion CFA francs. A massive investment plan in infrastructure. The financing is expressed in concrete actions: the rehabilitation of 3 165 hectares of land, the development of 65 kilometres of rural roads, the purchase of 7 combine harvesters and 7 tractors, and the construction of 12 crop storage units.
