The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of a decomposing body in an apartment in Osogbo, the state capital.
The deceased, identified as Kemisola, was reportedly found in her room at a residence located in the Jaleyemi area on Thursday.
The police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the incident had been formally reported to the authorities.
Ojelabi stated that officers promptly responded to the situation and took the necessary steps following the discovery.
“The incident was reported today. The remains were evacuated by the police, and an autopsy will be carried out,” he said.
He added, “There were no marks of violence on the deceased, but the police will investigate the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.”
DAILY POST gathered that the remains of the deceased have since been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and further examination.
Items reportedly found in the room before evacuation included a knife, a mobile phone, and an empty bottle containing an unidentified substance.
A man who identified himself as the elder brother of the deceased, but requested anonymity, said he last saw Kemisola earlier in the week.
“When I saw her on Monday, she told me she would come back to me. But I did not see her again until her body was found today. She was a hairstylist,” he said.
A neighbour, Damilola, described the deceased as a friendly and well-liked individual within the community.
“Kemisola was like a younger sister to me. She was a lovely person. When she came back on Monday, she greeted me and went inside,” Damilola said.
He added that the deceased had moved out of the apartment months earlier due to irregular power supply and had been staying with her maternal uncle, noting that neighbours may not have been aware of her recent return until an odour was noticed.
