Sello Mokoena was the chairperson of the Khombindlela Primary School school governing body for over a decade.
Deceased: Born and raised in Kwa-Thema, Sello Jimmy Marema Mokoena died on January 23, aged 56. He was born on July 7, 1968.
His life and career began flourishing in his early years, starting at Nkabinde Primary School and later at Lefa Ifa Secondary School, where he gained recognition as a soccer star, affectionately known as ‘Jimmy the Music Man’ on the field. He also played for local soccer teams, including, among others, the Crimson Pirates and Young Cosmos.
Community: In 1994, Mokoena became a political activist, joining the South African National Civic Organisation and becoming the chairperson of the Kwatsaduza branch. He earned the admiration and respect of his community in Ext 12, Tsakane, for his dedication to addressing their pressing issues. His involvement extended to the CPF, where he worked tirelessly to combat crime and resolve crises in the area.
Later, he became an ANC member, continuing his community services through his work on the local ward committee.
Additionally, Mokoena was the chairperson of the school governing body at Khombindlela Primary School for over a decade.
He remained employed at Dave Wauchope (Pty) Ltd until his death.
Family: He is survived by his wife, five children, seven grandchildren and two brothers.
Funeral: The service will be on Saturday at 07:00 at the Latter Rain Apostolic Family Church in Ext 12, next to the coal shed. The cortège will proceed to the Vlakfontein Cemetery at 09:00.
