
Three Nigerian soldiers who were killed in an improvised explosive device, IED, explosion during a security operation in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State have been laid to rest.
The soldiers died on Saturday when an IED, suspected to have been planted by bandits, exploded beneath their vehicle in Bargaja community while they were responding to a distress call from residents following an attack on the village.

The funeral prayer was held at Giginya Barracks in Sokoto and was attended by government officials, military personnel and relatives of the deceased.
Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir, represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the ceremony and conveyed the government’s condolences to the Nigerian Army and the families of the fallen soldiers.
Speaking at the event, Gobir described the deceased as heroes who lost their lives while protecting residents from criminal elements.
He prayed for the repose of their souls and urged their families and colleagues to remain steadfast in the face of the loss.

The deputy governor also reiterated the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other forms of insecurity across the state.
According to him, the government will continue to provide the necessary support to security personnel to restore peace in communities affected by criminal activities.

Following the funeral, Gobir visited injured security personnel and other victims receiving treatment at a hospital, assuring them of the government’s continued support.
Isa Local Government Area is located along the Kamuku-Kuyambana forest corridor, extending into Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, a region that has witnessed persistent bandit activities and is believed to serve as a hideout for armed groups linked to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

Meanwhile, residents of the area have called for improved patrol equipment and the deployment of mine-detection technology to help reduce casualties among troops operating in the region.
