A famous scar designer dubbed the ‘ uncle of the column black and grey tattooing’ style, Jack Rudy, has died, leaving fanatics of tattoos the world over in mourning.
Rudy died in his sleeping between the late/early days of Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26, 2025, according to his longtime friend and partner, Bob Tyrell. No cause of death was given for Rudy’s moving.
” I got woken up this morning with the bad information. Jack Rudy, my friend, passed aside while he was asleep. The scar industry is devastated right now, Tyrell wrote in a Twitter post. ” Jack was one of the kindest, funniest people I ever met. Truly one of a kind”,
Rudy’s enormous influence on the tattoo art form was praised by many other tattoo artists of all ages, off from Tyrell.

Rudy, born in 1954, is commonly considered as one of the best scar designers in the world. He began his career in the 1970s and quickly established himself as a result of his introduction to the black-and-gray tattoo technique. Rudy is even credited with pioneering single-needle usage and reasonable photographs.
Jack Rudy began his career at Goodtime Charlie’s Tatooland, East Los Angeles, as an assistant before resigning from the Marines. Alongside a companion, Charlie Cartwright, they developed the single-needle, black-and-gray type tattoos that would become Rudy’s mark.

Jack Rudy was an ex-President of the American Tattoo Association. He owned Tatooland, a city factory in Anaheim CA.
He served as president of the Beatnik’s Car Club, a car club that required people to have” a lot of tattoos” and hot rod in the style of the 1950s.
